The Importance of Questions

The Importance of Questions

In the financial industry, companies are always trying to set themselves apart. They pride themselves on the best algorithms, the best retirement software, the best website logins, etc. And while these tools help with investment advising, they’re missing the point of why their clients are there to see them.

At Anders Retirement & Investment Advisors, we pride ourselves on the quality of the questions that we ask, because we know that each person has unique needs, concerns, and situations. If you meet with someone and they start telling you about their product, account, or system before they’ve asked you questions and truly listened to your situation, then they may be trying to fit you into their model, not giving you a truly customized, tailored plan.

You as the client should also be comfortable asking your advisor any questions you want, such as:

  • How do you get paid?
  • How much in fees am I paying?
  • Exactly how much risk am I taking? (Alternatively: What did this investment do in 2008?)
  • How much access do I have to my funds?
  • What other options are there?

These questions shouldn’t make your advisor uncomfortable, they should solidify their recommendations for you.
